Using HappyNeuron Pro for Hybrid Therapy

What is Hybrid Therapy?

Hybrid therapy consists of remote and in-person therapy sessions conducted by a trained clinical provider. Hybrid therapy allows patients to have improved access to therapy while still reaping the benefits of in-person sessions. During hybrid therapy, video-conferencing platforms, digital cognitive therapy tools, and hands-on bridging activities provide an intensive and effective therapeutic experience.

Why Hybrid Therapy?

Patients and providers may favor hybrid therapy for three reasons.

  1. For one, hybrid therapy reduces the travel burden for patients. Patients who live long distances from clinics or have special transportation needs may have difficulty accessing therapeutic services.
  2. Secondly, therapists can better use their time with their patients by performing bridging activities with their patients in person and having their patient perform cognitive training remotely. Hybrid therapy allows therapists to spend more time with their clients doing relevant activities with their patients instead of spending time on activities that can be done remotely.
  3. Lastly, patients do not have to be fully reliant on the clinical provider being present to provide therapeutic activity when the clinical provider provides the patient with a platform to access asynchronous therapy.

How Can HappyNeuron Pro Be Used for Hybrid Therapy?

HappyNeuron Pro can be used to provide hybrid therapy for patients with cognitive impairment. With HappyNeuron Pro, clinical providers can work with their patients both synchronously and asynchronously. Together, patients and clinical providers can connect via a video conferencing platform, share screens, and have an interactive cognitive training session. Asynchronously, clinical providers can assign their patients homework so that their patients can continue to construct the building blocks of essential cognitive functions.

Why Should I Assign Homework?

Assigning homework or home exercises for your patients is highly beneficial. It allows your patient to get the duration and intensity of therapy that they need for neuroplastic changes to occur. As your patient performs home exercises throughout the week, you can begin to understand what areas of cognition your patient is struggling with and specifically what aspects of a cognitive task they need to work on. This will allow you to tailor your therapy sessions to address your patients’ weaknesses while helping them maintain their strengths.
